Yesterday, July 12th, we left Jackson Hole and headed back to the Grand Teton National Park.
Today was overcast and a good day just to be driving.  It rained most of the day.  The first day of an all day rain the whole trip.  I guess the animals thought the nosey tourists wouldn't come out.  We saw these bison lounging in the field across from a pull out.

and just down the road were this herd of deer or are they elk??

The day before the mountains were beautiful and clear, yesterday they were shrowded in clouds.

Lewis Falls coming from the other direction
Yellowstone Lake - the lake is feed by the Yellowstone River.  You may have heard about the river in the news lately.  Exxon spilled oil in it.
Ducks on the lake.  Not sure what kind.

There was still lots of snow on the mountains and the waterfalls were really running.

I always thought that buffalos stayed in herds but this old guy must have gone off to die - he was right on our road all by himself!!!!

We went through part of  the Shoshone National Forest.  It was the first national forest established in 1891 by President Benjamin Harrison.  We took the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway - listed as the most scenic 52 miles in the US.

I called this rock formation The Church since it looked like the side of a church - the entrance way on the right and then the two spires.  Not as good as Sedona Arizona but still impressive.

We arrrived in Cody, Wyoming.  Cody was founded by Col. William "Buffalo Bill" Cody in 1896.  They have a rodeo every night at the Stampede Arena - unfortunately it rained so we didn't go.
