Yesterday, July 13, we left Cody and headed for Devil's Tower.  We stopped at a rest area for Flower and next to the area was this county airport.  All the planes were very old - one didn't even have any wings!!
We went through Greybull, Wyoming.  It got its name from a local Indian legend that claimed an albino buffalo roamed the area.  The indians revered the bull, considering it a sign from their Great Spirit.

We traveled through Bighorn National Forest.  We went on the Big Horn Scenic Byway through the Big Horn Mountain  which crossed the 8950 foot Granite Pass and winds through Shell Canyon and Falls.
The Big Horn River
The Big Horn Mountains

This is Shell Falls - it was amazing and when I looked down I was afraid I would drop the camera!!!

We have seen these poles all over the west where there is high snowfall.  They are pole markers showing the edge of the road for plow drivers.  It gives you and idea of how much snow they get.
We finally saw a moose!!!

Finally we arrived at Devil's Tower.  Devil's Tower is a huge monolith resembling a colossal stone tree stump rising 867 feet up.  This was the sight of the filming of the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"  Today we went and saw it up close.
More tomorrow ......
